The Interdependence of Indian Independence
15th August 2013: Sunny
morning here in my hometown, after all the rainy days that soothed the climate
down to a bearable limit- this seems more like a typical springtime atmosphere
though it is supposed to be monsoon here now. I get out of bed and find my
cell-phone buzzing in a horrendously frantic way, and when I give a keener ear,
I notice songs of martyrdom breezing in from my neighbor's house. It took me
the heavy incoming Independance Day messages in my cell to realize the base of
such an articulate celebration, and the historic relevance of the day for us
Indians. Yes! you guessed it right... I had forgotten the Independence Day... I
know many of you do as well, but here my forgetfulness was more deliberately
enforced than instinctive. Independence is a behemoth term, and the way we
maneuver at the very application of the word is seemingly unjust and
unauthentic.
India's freedom much
like the morning of the 15th of August is sweet and alluring, yet not well
founded. A highly debatable question is what follows: "Was India too early
for Independence?". Some would agree. some would say otherwise. Debatable.
For about the 200 years of enslavement, all that the people and the native
public sought was Independance... not stability. There was rarely any foresightedness
and a full-blooming patriotism was so enchanted the mass that the thoughts of
what after Self-dependence were sent to the shredders. This is quite one of the
negative effects of taking life one day at a time; and sometimes premonitions
about the future could do you good. But here we are... Independent... rather
virtually so.
Freedom is an extensive
term, and it takes much more than a hothead to be free, because a free
man/organisation is the one which can self-sustain. We have successfully
rerouted ourselves from captivity to misgovernance. Anarchy still exists, politicians
growing keener for power and society plunged into the gory darkness of
misgovernance, but we seemed to be satisfied by the change of the rulers. Under
a different skin its just the same heinousness that persisted in the old days.
Political hunger for power, lack of action and vision, intermittent scams,
pluripartite government and their stoic exterior to social causes, there is no
lack of independence for the ones in power here.
The masses here keep
suffering and have quite adjusted them to such a lifestyle, they acknowledged
the atrocities as the only way to live and life means struggle everyday. But
every such field has one weed... one weed that does not want to be tamed.. on
weed that can cause a rebellion... sometimes the farmers burnt it to ashes...
but it won't be the same... One day there will be change on real terms. One day
India will celebrate its independence. Not this day.
